something good that happened is...
school's out for winter break! my last class was on wednesday and it was so nice. we had a sharing circle and reflected on what we learned during the course, and then we had a pizza party. i took out a fork to get my pizza with and the prof seemed to understand my situation right away. she offered to open a new box for me and let me take the first slice because nobody touched it yet. i didn't have to explain anything to her--i didn't even have to ask. i honestly got misty eyed because i felt so understood and valued in that moment. during the sharing circle, the prof gave everybody specific praise (based on assignments and participation) and sincere gratitude for our participation. what she said to me was that she loved the creativity i showed in my work and she wants me to know that teachers should be kind and care about their students, and that the relationship between a student and teacher isn't supposed to be transactional. i understood right away that she was referring to the email correspondence we had a couple days prior, where i asked for yet another extension and said that i felt bad about it and didn't mean to disrespect her or take advantage of her kindness. my last assignment was handed in on friday so today was my first full day with no school!
something bad that happened is...
i delivered a group presentation on monday and i did terribly. i did it sitting on a desk, missed my cue, and seemed to have no idea what i was talking about. my grade on it was 2/4 points and the feedback said that i was uninvolved and didn't add substantially to the presentation. i knew my lines though, and i did just fine half an hour earlier when my group practiced it together--truth is i was experiencing a hot flash and lightheadedness while i was in front of the class! if i seemed uninvolved it was because most of my energy went towards keeping myself upright.
i overcame the bad thing by...
i went home early and in a lot of pain. i had a hot water bottle on my lower abdomen and drank raspberry leaf tea and then felt a lot better. as for the presentation, i'm more concerned with having made a fool of myself than i am with the grade i got, since it isn't worth such a big part of my final grade. i'm already doing pretty bad in that course. whenever i get embarrassed i need to remind myself that my professor and classmates are not going home and thinking about how badly i did on that presentation. if they see me again in person they might remember it, but they probably don't think any less of me, just like how i don't think less of my classmates if they mess something up.
i'm proud of myself for...
finishing all my final assignments on time, and having a lot of exciting things ahead of me for the next month. i love long breaks like winter break and summer break because i can do whatever i want. i'm proud of myself for having lots of fun things to do when i have free time. i know i've come a long way because i used to spend all these long breaks online as a teen.
